Dear all,
The next meeting of the Serious Metaphysics Group will take place on Wednesday 26th Feb, 11am-12.30pm in the philosophy board room. Our speaker is Lucy Campbell who will be giving a talk entitled _Why Intentions are not (always) Propositional Attitudes_ (abstract below). I hope to see you there. Best wishes, Matthew Simpson Lucy Campbell - _Why Intentions are not (always) Propositional Attitudes_ "Intentions are often thought of as, like beliefs, propositional attitudes. I argue that if we accept a plausible assumption about what it takes to execute an intention, then the view that all intentions have propositional contents leads to a problematic regress. Two options then arise: accept that at least some intentions are not propositional attitudes, or reject the seeming-plausible assumption. I argue that the assumption cannot be happily rejected and that we should therefore reject the view that intentions are per se propositional attitudes. I close by considering what the objects of intentions might be where those intentions are not propositional attitudes." -- Matthew Simpson PhD Student in Philosophy University of Cambridge Mail: Robinson College, Cambridge, CB3 9AN
