In a talk that will be of interest to all those interested in politics and ideas in general...
Oliver James - author of "Affluenza" "Whatever happened to democracy, meritocracy and feminism?" Monday 21st November 2011 Elton-Bowring Room - Clare Memorial Court 9pm Please come join us this Monday at 9:00 pm for what shall probably be Clare Politics' BIGGEST EVENT of this term! World-renowned psychologist Oliver James, author of the best-selling Affluenza (2009), as well as Home Office advisor and weekly Guardian columnist, shall address Clare Politics in what should be not only a fascinating but rather contentious talk. He will discuss how the British political parties' goals of widening democracy, creating meritocracy and promoting feminism have been perverted since 1979, and how "we require a total rethink of what these goals are and what really would benefit us". How does are these goals affected by the prospect of low or nil economic growth? What role does climate change play in bringing these about? Come along and find out! BOOKS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE at the event, (and in all likelihood he'll be pleased to sign some!) There will be free wine, cheese and crackers as always...plus the well loved Q&A. Hope to see you all there! DIRECTIONS TO THE ELTON-BOWRING ROOM: Enter Clare Memorial Court on Queen's Road. Walk up the stairs, past the porters' lodge and keep walking forward until you see some arches on the right in the court just before the UL. These lead to the Gillespie Centre, where the talk is taking place, and the Elton-Bowring Room should be signposted. _____________________________________________________ Sent by the CamPhilEvents mailing list.
