All is good now. I replaced my 64-bit Debian with 32-bit Debian. Then, I installed 32-bit Pharo.
It's weird that I must run Pharo (which is installed in /home/richard) as root, though. Must be a Debain thing 'cuz it wasn't necessary in Ubuntu.
