Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, the source I was using is the 
Seaside book at: 
http://book.seaside.st/book/web-20/jquery/enhanced-todo-application/drag-and-drop

I was using a heavily modified version of that example to figure out how it 
works. The code on that page is the culprit. 

Q: A long time ago I remember one could post errata on the bottom page of that 
Seaside book. This seems to be no longer possible. IS IT POSSIBLE TO EDIT THE 
SEASIDE BOOK? I've redone all the examples and discovered a lot of 
improvements, I've written them down so I could edit the book, I've done it 
before about two years ago when I was doing the examples in the first part, 
never got this far before.
