In SQL, "MIN" is an aggregate function. It actually does work with
strings, but only when used as an aggregate:
regress=# SELECT min(x.a) FROM ( VALUES ('blah'),('blah2'),('aaaa') ) x(a);
min
------
aaaa
(1 row)
