Maybe this is helpful:

alvh=> select 'int'::regtype;
 regtype 
---------
 integer
(1 row)

alvh=> select 'int4'::regtype;
 regtype 
---------
 integer
(1 row)

alvh=> select 23::regtype;
 regtype 
---------
 integer
(1 row)

I don't know about the rest though.
