So, for postgres, that means: - a good thing the autovacuum thingy is coming along - postgres should auto-tune itself - the *cost could perhaps be adjusted after some statistics have been collected, and there should be some sensible way to determine an optimal setting for the famous shared_buffers (and the default should be something that gets reasonable performance on common cases) No, I don't expect the second one soon - I know how hard it is. No, I'm not debating that PostgreSQL is not much, much, much easier to administrate and set up than Oracle.
