When you say multiline do you mean this: template1=$ select * from template1-$ abc a template1-$ where a.id=1; or a situation where the query text exceeds the terminal width and wraps to the next line? If the latter, see if horizontal-scroll-mode is set to off in your ~/.inputrc.
