Feel free to insist on that, if you want to make dead certain that updatable views don't make it into 8.4 ;-) My recollection of the discussion two years ago is that we concluded that WITH CHECK OPTION is simply not implementable using a rule-based infrastructure, because of the multiple-evaluation problem. Perhaps it could be done with some kind of extension to the constraint-checking logic, but I freely admit I don't see how to do it in any detail.
