I think maybe I got the idea for parenthesis from these:
src/backend/tcop/postgres.c:                            set_ps_display("idle in

src/backend/postmaster/postmaster.c-            appendStringInfo(&ps_data,

"checkpointer: running end-of-recovery checkpoint"
"checkpointer running: end-of-recovery checkpoint"
