You are going to have to help us by providing server (and any other) logs with complete error messages and VB/ODBC code, with corresponding schema, that will reliably reproduce the problem.
Note that since you are on an ancient 9.1 release it is possible that, if this is indeed a bug, this has already been fixed in one of the 10 subsequent releases.
