Hi Ascot, I am new to Postgresql, I have installed the Postgresql 9.1.8 in my ubuntu > 12.04 machine and I found 9.1.9 was released last week, can someone advise > me how to upgrade pg from 9.1.8 to 9.1.9? > > or, are the following commands correct for this upgrade? > apt-get update > apt-get upgrade > (os Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, current Postgresql version is 9.1.8, target > version 9.1.9) >
For minor updates (ie 9.1.8 to 9.1.9), that is all that's required. On my RHEL systems the update process will invoke a "fast shutdown request" on postgresql which will cause the database to restart. Depending on you application, you'll probably want to perform the update during a scheduled maintenance period. HTH, -Joshua
