I think simple
SELECT TABLENAME.id
FROM TABLENAME
WHERE prm_patern ilike TABLENAME.candidate_pattern||'%' ORDER BY |char_length(|TABLENAME.candidate_pattern) desc LIMIT 1 should do the trick. (Provided TABLENAME is not very large of course)
