You can find the log file @ /tmp/install-postgresql.log.
That will help us to know the exact problem.

I am trying to install Postgress DB server on RHEL 5.3 (64 bit OS , HP
system AMD 64 processor). After installation its giving a message "post
installation failed". and no more information.
I found that postmaster.pid, postmaster.opts are not created in the data
directory.
Even i tried with 8.3.7-1 version of standard server. Its also giving the
same problem.
