1. Is it 32 bit/64 bit linux?
2. What exactly are you using in Find & Replace text-controls?

In helping me debug this, Andres Freund hit the same bug on the Karmic
Koala Ubuntu beta.
I could reproduce it with ubuntu's 1.8.4 and with a self-compiled
trunk r7940.
