That appears to be one of those error messages that could mean anything.
Good old Microsoft!!

Anyway, can you please try (re)installing MDAC2.6 from
www.microsoft.com/data, and seeing if that makes a difference. If not,
please switch logging to Full Debug (under Tools -> Options), recreate
the error and then send the logfiles.
