The creepy animated icon on Gmail that tries to trick you into turning
on AI -- that doesn't even say it's AI!
Google is really going dark pattern in their attempts to fool people into
turning on Gemini
AI in Gmail. I mean really, really dark. Not only does the four-pointed star
when hovered
over animate into some sort of bizarre flower petal thing -- no other icons on
the Gmail
interface are animated on hover -- but it DOESN'T TELL THE USER THAT'S IT'S AI.
It just
says: "Try Gemini". Talk about trying to sucker people in. I suspect an
enormous number
of Gmail users have no idea what "Gemini" is and will click in ignorance, and
then of course
discover that it's very difficult to ever turn it off again.
This is INCREDIBLY DISHONEST BEHAVIOR by Google. It should be ILLEGAL.
