What Google should do about the Gulf of Mexico
There is as far as I know NO LAW that requires Google to harmonize
its geo naming with the USGS Geographic Names Information System
(GNIS) to the exclusion of global norms and common sense.
At the VERY least, I call on Google to show the globally accepted
"Gulf of Mexico" to U.S. users -- as they are doing for users
EVERYWHERE else on the planet -- along with Trump's fascist "Gulf of
America" (hell, put "Gulf of Mexico" in parentheses if nothing else)
if they're so terrified of upsetting Trump by not bowing to his
psychotic demands.
Students in particular depend on ACCURACY in Google Maps and other
Google geo services. Fascist naming censorship manipulations and
propaganda are a slap in the face to them and to Google's core
principles, which Google appears to be increasingly shredding every
day. -L
