Drone maker DJI replaces its own geo/block warning system with FAA data

In the announcement below, DJI announces that in the U.S. (as it
apparently did in areas of the EU a year ago relating to EU aviation
authorities) they are replacing their own system for warnings and
flight blocks for users with display of FAA data and warnings without
blocks. While the timing seems rather bizarre given the U.S. ban and
concerns relating to sensitive areas (including what appears to be the
impact of a DJI drone with a fire fighting aircraft a few days ago),
my own reading of this is that DJI has found it increasingly
impractical to be an "enforcement" agent between pilots and the FAA,
especially when FAA data is the official source, and legally pilots
are responsible for safe and authorized flying, not the manufacturer.

How this will play out in the current toxic regulatory atmosphere would seem to be a very open question. We shall see. -L
