Google Voice needs to more effectively fight spam calls
Google Voice needs a feature for users in "do not disturb" mode that
permits them to specify text strings (regular expressions would be
dandy, but something more easily understood by most users would be
fine) that if matched with the message transcript would treat a caller
as confirmed spam, irrespective of the purported calling number, and
send the call/message directly to the spam folder, so that the user
didn't have to deal with it at all.
Spammers are now running through Google Voice numbers sending immense
amounts of spam messages. Typically these use different calling
numbers on each cycle, which permits them to frequently evade Google's
current spam detection algorithm.
However, the messages left by many of these callers are extremely
repetitive, and by targeting specific text strings as specified by
users, these calls could be directed to the spam folder without any
interaction with "do not disturb" users, who otherwise have to plow
through them to review the voicemail spam messages.
Under the current model, spam is completely out of control on Google
Voice, often resulting in users getting a dozen or more calls with the
same message, each from different phone numbers, every day.
