Back in the day, and we're going back a while here... we had one meeting a month. That seemed to work well.
When I provided the venue what I offered was quite basic, just a lot of power outlets and fast WiFi. Both locations sound nice. I am not really a pub person but am happy to provide basic tech support or an impromptu talk (but no highly polished PowerPoint, sorry). ________________________________ From: Peterboro <peterboro-boun...@mailman.lug.org.uk> on behalf of Nigel Law via Peterboro <peterboro@mailman.lug.org.uk> Sent: 02 August 2022 14:16:45 To: Daniel Sewe Cc: Nigel Law; Mark Rogers; Peterborough LUG - No commercial posts Subject: Re: [Peterboro] Newbie Introduction If, just if we were to try and meet regularly to bring equipment out and do “Stuff” how often would be acceptable? Too often becomes a chore and not often enough can be unsatisfactory. Would once a month or every 6 weeks be about right? I have a couple of places in mind we might be able to book on a regular basis, one is in Werrington, the other is in Stibbington at the NVR. The Werrington venue has the advantage of being very close to a pub. Thoughts Guys and Girls. Welcome Nigel! Back in the dim and distant past we used to meet regularly and that would have been the ideal opportunity to bring along your home HP server and others bring along laptops and see if we couldn't all get things working between us. I think two things stopped those meets. One was having something to talk about - well there was always something to talk about, I remember one evening spent mostly talking about carpets!, but without a focus the meetings tended to drift, and so people tended to drift away from the meets until they stopped. But the second, and likely biggest, reason was lack of a venue to meet at where there was space to set up a few computers, Internet access, etc. I suspect that with your NVR project providing a topic, then if we can find a meeting venue then there may still be a number of PLUG members interested in meeting up? (Hopefully a few people will chip in at this point?) This group still has a reasonable number of members, but I suspect many (like myself) set up mail filtering rules to drop the PLUG mail into a separate folder which - given the lack of traffic for some time - we rarely now check. So it might take a while for anyone to respond, but I don't see why it needs many interested members to get a meet off the ground if we can find somewhere to hold it.
