"I had a problem getting a microphone working with openSUSE 11.2.
I solved it with the following:
'Applications Launcher'
'Systems Settings'
'Multimedia'
Then make sure that the 'Audio capture' element is pointing to the correct
device. I had a PCI audio card as well as the on-board sound and it seemed to
get confused as to which it was trying to use.
They are likely to have kept this format for 11.4"

Thanks for the thought Ian. I do have two sound cards showing in the Audio
Capture section. One is named 'Internal Analogue Stereo' and the other is my
'HDA NVidia'.
I've tried promoting both of these to 'Preferred' status, but with no effect.

I've also dug through the Alsamixer settings and thought I had it cracked when
I discovered that the Front Mic volume setting was at zero. I increased it to
around 90%
and tried Skype Call Testing again, but ended up disappointed when my dulcet
tones were not played back to me.

I'll keep trying though. Ever the optimist.
