Hi

Had similar problem with Evolution a couple of years ago. I abandoned the
normal sound notification and created a rule to make it play a sound on an
incoming email event for all emails. Bit of a kludge but it has proved to be
robust.

Cheers

Clive

Hi Peoples

Just to inform you of a problem at the moment with Thunderbird, you
may have noticed in Ubuntu 10.10 and Thunderbird 3.1.7 that there is
no sound (either when a wav file is selected and you press the play
button in Thunderbird Preferences > General, or when new mail comes in.

If like me you downloaded the tarball and unpacked it then you wont
have any dependencies installed.

The easy way to solve this is to install a dependency package called
'esound':

sudo apt-get install esound

After running this command close down thunderbird and re open it,
check your emails, and if you have new mail you should get sound
again! If you dont have new mail go back to Thunderbird Preferences >
General and press the play button on selecting a wav file to use.

Will let you all know how I get on! Exam not booked yet, want to
finish the book, do some revision and practice exams first.

Richard
