Greetings all. I shall be there.
I'm totally amazed to announce that I've actually got Linux running on a laptop! No-one is more amazed than me. It's only taken eight months and lasted from Ubuntu 8.1 to 9.04. I decided to give it YET ANOTHER go when Computeractive issued a Linux Special which included articles that even I could understand and a CD containing ISOs for Damn Small Linux and Ubuntu 9.04. The only thing I can think is that the CD in the mag was faulty. I burned the iso for Ubuntu to CD twice - the second time at a slow burn rate and both times the "check CD" function returned three files with errors. So as a last desperate resort I downloaded a fresh iso from the Net, burned a CD and bingo !!!! It's installed onto my Windows 7 laptop - AND it works - AND it's online by wireless. I even got DSL to install on the very old laptop, though nothing works. So if anyone is in the mood tomorrow night for a spot of teaching I'd love a chat about using Ubuntu. And if anyone fancies a spot of troubleshooting, I'd love you to look at the DSL laptop. Brian
