If you want to get back into coding again, why don't you knock on one of the 
current project's doors? Maybe you could bring some of your ideas into existing 
code that would improve it... Incidentally, I know it's not GTK, but the KDE 
project is almost exclusively C++. You just have to get over the Qt API hurdle.
