Dear Tony, Thank you for your quick and clear response. Thank you for the clarification, a mite did not cross my mind. The gloves are indeed cotton and where not worn, but there has never been a mouse sighting nor their droppings so an interesting case. I will investigate further!

As the gloves appear to be made of cotton, the damage is unlikely to be an insect pest. I would agree that mice are the most likely culprits, if mechanical damage is ruled out.
