Rachel,

As a pesticide safety educator, I just want to point out that diatomaceous
earth isn't "non-toxic." Be sure to read the label precautions regarding eye
and inhalation exposure.

Subject: [PestList] use of diatomaceous earth in museum

Hello, pesty people,
I have a question: are there any concerns with using an occasional light
dusting of diatomaceous earth along the edges of the walls and in the entryway
of our museum, which is carpeted, to assist with the management of dermestid
beetles, such as black carpet beetles and varied carpet beetles?
I appreciate your comments. It seems like a good, non-toxic tool, and I've used
it the past couple of months with some potentially optimistic results.
Thank you,

Rachel Minor
