Dear Stefanie, Basically, I can recommend quarantine in tight overseas containers that can be treated with freezing or anoxia. I spoke about this at the IPM workshop at your Museum 3 weeks ago.
•For large IPM-Freezer you could ask Lars Klemm from ICONYK (Munich) •In Germany and Austria, we only have a few Pest Control companies that can build large Anoxia tents of this size. For addresses please contact me directly •The normal insect drawers with wooden frames do not need to be opened for Anoxia, because of the gas diffusion through the wood Gesendet von Outlook für iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef> Best, Stephan Stephan Biebl Ingenieurbüro für Holzschutz Mariabrunnweg 15 83671 Benediktbeuern Tel. 08857697040 Mobil 0171-8138327 https://www.holzwurmfluesterer.de/ https://insectactivitydetectionsystem.de/ https://museumsschaedlinge.de/ ________________________________ Von: pestlist@googlegroups.com <pestlist@googlegroups.com> im Auftrag von Krause, Stefanie <Stefanie.Krause@mfn.berlin> Gesendet: Montag, Oktober 7, 2024 8:17 PM An: pestlist@googlegroups.com <pestlist@googlegroups.com> Cc: Friese, Meta <Meta.Friese@mfn.berlin> Betreff: [PestList] quarantining large amount of insect drawers, anoxia Dear all, please allow me to address a question to you: Our museum will partially move into a new building and aims to virtually quarantine our whole entomological collection (about 15 million specimens) at once. Ideally. The intention is to put the palleted insect drawer piles into cold chambers or e.g. anoxia tents. Since freezing the drawers would force us to remove for example the numerous microscopic slides out of the drawers first, because these could be harmed during the process, we thought that anoxia treatment would be a good alternative. So: * Does anybody of you has experiences with quarantining such an amount of insect drawers at once, using cold or anoxia, and has some advice for us? * Does anybody of you knows if anoxia treatment of closed insect drawers piled up on palettes even would be possible or if drawers absolutely would have to be separated and opened individually during the treatment? With many thanks in advance and best regards, Stefanie Dipl.-Biol.
