Subject: [PestList] AW: Use of Raid on Bontanical

Cheri,

the pest control in Europe, had used chlorpyrifos a long time in the past with
products like DURSBAN, EMPIRE (Dow) etc. But since 2008 the use of
chlorpyrifos is not allowed as biocide here in Europe.
My experience with chlorpyrifos (Empire 20 from DOW) was e.g. against bed bugs
with a half-life with minimum 6-12 month.

The brand RAID Spray (today as international products from SC JOHNSON and
founded as PARAL in Germany) nowadays has modern active pyrethroid substances
for short half-life against flies and wasps or longer half-life against other
insects.
The internet says, Raid insect-spray is used since 50 years and in the 70´s
there were substances like DDT or Lindan inside the bottles. So it´s not sure,
which substances were used in the 80´s.

Looking at the NYS pesticide database, I see some products from the 80s and 90s
had chlorpyrifos, which also has a short half-life.

As far as the active ingredient for current raid products the half life should
be around a month long. I can not find any information about active ingredients
they were using in the 80's. If you call them tell them who you are and where
you are from and why you want to know they will probably get back to you with
an answer. I have done that with companies before and they have been very
helpful. There will also probably be a petrol base in there as well. JTV
