I would definitely switch it up so you don’t end up with pesticide resistant beetles. Regardless of which you choose request NyGaurd be added and you should see better results. You most certainly have every right to request a certain product/treatment plan especially if they want to use one that does not have cigarette beetles listed as a targeted pest. Just kindly say we have researched and we really would like this this with this done as this type of treatment. If they(tech) push back just say we need to think about it and discuss with their management. Personally I would pick the Demand with NyGaurd for more bang for your buck. Unfortunately the gaps in herbarium cases are problematic. JTV

[CAUTION: This message originated from outside the Foundation. Do not click links, open attachments or take action unless you know the contents are safe] Hi Joel, This is in herbarium cabinets. They are going after various plant specimens, although this infestation was focused on a few half-cabinets of Apiaceae. On-going issue, has been found in other areas of the Herbarium occasionally, although without an immediately obvious pattern. In other areas where large infestations were previously found, specimens were bagged, frozen, and the cabinets were treated with EcoVia (localized within the infested cabinets as needed, not perimeter treatments) before refiling the specimens. We haven't had return incidents in those cabinets since treatment, but cigarette beetles are still within the Herbarium and haven’t been fully excluded, they just find something new to snack on. We regularly catch 1 or 2 adults on blunder traps over the span of three months, same with pheromone traps, but only rarely find issues large enough (50+ beetles, larvae, and/or pupae in one space) to move us toward full treatment of the area. Since the EcoVia has worked well for us in localized treatments, but the new contractor is insisting on using Taurus, we’re concerned this won’t be as effective where we need it. Should we ask him to come back and retreat with something else (whether EcoVia, Demand CS, and/or Nyguard)? [CAUTION: This message originated from outside the Foundation. Do not click links, open attachments or take action unless you know the contents are safe] Hi all, Does anyone have any experience using Taurus SC (9.1% Fipronil) as a treatment for cigarette beetles (Lasioderma serricorne)? In the past we have used EcoVia EC (20% thyme oil, 14% 2-Phenethyl Propionate, 8% rosemary oil) and it has been effective. We got a new contractor recently who insists on using Taurus SC, though no information I can find notes it as being effective against cigarette beetles—mostly just termites. Because of this I have concerns about long-term effectiveness. Will this work for us or should I push harder to go back to EcoVia?
