The shape of the head looks correct. Found nothing in Mallis about shrews but
there is a link. Is there development nearby that could have disturbed him.
Sounds like they are usually illusive and do not breed fast like rats so that
is a good thing. Hopefully just and occasional invader. I would reach out to a
local extension agent for regulations and advice. You may be able to get a
waiver from game commission if they become a problem and they are protected. JTV

Subject: [PestList] shrew

[CAUTION: This message originated from outside the Foundation. Do not click

Hi all,

I’m sorry to be asking for so much identification help. We have had problems
with shrews in the past and found a new one in a trap today. We have pygmy
shrews here in South Dakota and I think this looks like those. Can anyone
confirm?

And can anyone point me in a direction to find more out about these shrews and
the risks they pose to collections?

Thanks!
