That is a good question. No, they are not a major danger to carpets or most
collections. It is good to remember most insects, arachnids etc. are not a
direct danger to our collections. Incidental’s do provide a food source for
those whom we consider pests. Spiders, centipedes and some others hunt and eat
the insects we consider pests. Some spiders, ticks and some other insects can
be a danger to human health – thus another concern.

Take a look at the MuseumPest.Net web site to become more familiar with the
insects that you need to be concerned about! It is a great resource. For
carpets, the insects that you need to be most worried about are the various
moths, dermestids and a few others that prefer to eat proteins.

Good luck,

Hello
Orb spider and mite;

Can mites damage carpets and how can they be removed?

Hello all
We encountered a kind of pest in the carpet of a museum in Tehran. They are
very, very small and move fast. They look like spiders ot maybe a tick.
The insect is very small.
There is an insect in the picture above the pen.

How can I send a photo?
I want to know what are their names?
What is their life cycle?
What is the reason for their presence?
Do they feed on wool and cotton?
How to eliminate them?

Grateful
With respect
Shokoufeh mesbahi
