Maybe developing a double sided tape with variable adhesion for this use could be an idea for Historyonics or other suppliers of IPM products..

We use painter’s tape on the floor before adding tactile tape as “barriers” in front of paintings. ThE use of the painter’s tape prevents ruining the finish on our limestone floors.
