Kathryn,

The size, shape and markings, as well as the temporal and spatial info might be
consistent with Mesogona, perhaps M. olivata. It’d be best to view the spread
wings and see other features. I’ll defer to folks who have more expertise with
moths of the great southwest. If I’m correct, then these are of no real concern
to anything within the museum. They’re likely intruders that arrive via open
doors and windows. I’d value be corrected, however.

Subject: [PestList] Moth Identification (Arizona/Utah)

Hi,
I'm new to my site and this region so I am not as familiar with the various
bugs out west of the Mississippi. I've been told by the interpreters who have
been here longer than I (5 months) that these moths (photo attached) arrive in
the spring and take up residence in our historic fort. They showed up about 2
weeks ago, and the population has exploded in two of the rooms that are
currently not on view to the public. I've removed and washed all of the
reproduction textiles, and we go through the rooms daily to inspect and open up
the doors which seems to get rid of many of them. We are located in northern
Arizona, near the Utah border on the Arizona Strip for context.

We found an image of a specimen that seems to match, but a general internet
search for "Arizona Moth" brings up nothing. Arizona Moth -

Any assistance with identification is most appreciated!

Thank you,
