mostly true but die is involved with error handling and the %SIG die
handler and those are being discussed in flow. when areas or threads in
a parent group get too voluminous, we split it off into a more focused
list. sometimes there is still overlap. one goal of a sublist is to make
some reports and send them to the parent list. though i don't think
anyone has done that yet.
