We could also drop support for doing a check with any version control
systems other than subversion. (Another note that probably belongs on
another ticket: just because we have an svn repository doesn't mean we
have an svn binary: see tortoiseSVN on windows.).

I would prefer to keep our infrastructure geared towards the one
version control system we *have* to support; There's no problem with
folks using other front ends to the system, of course, but it's all
subversion in the end.

(That said, didn't we already solve the svk issue elsewhere? If so, no
harm in piggy-backing on that.)
