Here's the current DEVELOPING file: ******** # $Id$ THIS RELEASE: Parrot 0.6.2 2008.05.20 PREVIOUS RELEASE: Parrot 0.6.1 2008.04.15 This file should only exist in development distributions. Delete it (and its entry in the MANIFEST) before packaging Parrot up for a CPAN or other release distribution. 'THIS RELEASE' is the goal of the current development. 'PREVIOUS RELEASE' is the release that has been last let out into the wild. ******** The notes at the bottom don't match the info at the top. I believe it is the info that is wrong (constantly out of date). This file is deleted from release tarballs, so it cannot be seen by anyone using a released version. So it can only be used by people with SVN checkouts -- and it's not useful to them, as it currently shows only historical data better seen in the NEWS file. What a developer might want to know is exactly the info described in the notes at the bottom of the file -- what was the last release, how long has it been out, what is the next release, and what is the planned timeframe. On IRC, Coke pointed out that we may not have the version string and date for the next release nailed down immediately after a release is cut. My response is that we should at least have a placeholder name and best guess time frame, and put those in the file (possibly with a note indicating it's not finalized). -'f
