I've gone ahead and applied the "null $P0" patch above (thanks!) -- it's not exactly correct but it's less wrong than other alternatives at the moment.
I suspect the correct approach will be to eliminate the existing global vars and turn them into attributes on the PAST::Compiler object. But I'll save that for another day. Closing ticket, thanks! Pm
