The patch looks good to me. I applied it on Debian Linux, called 'perl configure.pl --test --configure_trace' -- the last option creates a hidden file in the top-level directory which is cleaned up by 'make realclean', hence providing a real-world test -- then 'make', 'make test' and 'make realclean'. I then called 'svn status' to see if there were any files not under version control, and there were not.
I'll apply this patch in about 24 hours if no one objects. kid51
