Perhaps so. The problem is that at no point was I *aware* that I was copying the property from trunk to branch. None of my previous 'svn merge's gave me a notice of that. So I suspect that we'll encounter this problem in other branches as well.

ptc's suggestion worked. I used my svn_synch.pl script to accomplish the merge.

Here's my vote for banning the svn:externals property from our repository. For me, it's been a big time-waster.
