When I looked at this (rather quickly, some time ago) I didn't see anything being determined in the conditional makefiles that wasn't already known to ICU's configure system. I suspect it's an historic artifact of the way ICU was developed. It's probably not *too* hard to move the relevant logic into Makefile.in and friends, but it probably would be a pain to maintain those changes separately from the official upstream ICU distribution. -- Andy Dougherty [EMAIL PROTECTED]
