Strange, with gcc 3.3.1 I could not reproduce this error. Only one
test fails:

t/op/number.........NOK 38#     Failed test (t/op/number.t at line 1038)     
#          got: '12.500000
# -1.996899
# '
#     expected: '12.500000
# 0.000000
# '
# Looks like you failed 1 tests of 38.

And that was before this fix was commited.
