I didn't have the opportunity then, but I'm really wondering -- what about this did NMAKE dislike? I still prefer the rebuild.pl method, but I don't have nmake, so I can't beat it into submission.
The problem was, that the change dates of the dependend files are not controllable. I did check in depended files later, but they ended somtimes with the same change date, as the imcc.{y.l} files, which then forced a rebuild with not available tools
