I don't think we can do this. If you do it as an interim thing, and I think
it's a bad idea (though I'll leave it to Simon to make the final call), put
it in a separate source file that can be replaced later. I don't much care
if it's the only thing in the file--that's OK. (Call it
stolen_from_perl5.c, if you would...)
