Thanks; but I think I'm going to wait for the portability police to
comment. There's every likelihood we want to write out own sprintf-like
function.
I also want to go over Dave Storrs' patch (I haven't forgotten you, Dave!)
to automate vtable handling before adding more vtable functions.
