I was hoping it was just something dumb I was doing.

As I see it, there is nothing going wrong here. I could look into the message but if the test ends well, all is well.

A note about bitrot i've seen in another message: Yes, not much work is put in there lately. More is done on the newer 'api<2>' distros which only has Gtk4. It is possible to add the Gtk3 and Gdk3 to the newer api but I want to finish the work on Gtk4 first, although it changes sometimes with deprecations and new classes.
