I am seeking an Outreach/Communication Specialist for an institute

This position will creatively and effectively communicate scientific
computing and bioinformatics concepts, practices and available services
to the NIH scientific community. The candidate will work in close
collaboration with bioinformatics staff specializing in application
development, training, data analysis, and project management. Specific
projects may also require the candidate to interact with IT specialists,
desktop support, and network management staff.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

 

-Generate all materials and documents required to effectively
communicate scientific IT and bioinformatics concepts and practices to
the NIH scientific community. 

-Plan, prepare, edit, write, and disseminate newsletters, articles, and
other collateral pieces.

-Prepare and deliver presentations.

-Conduct seminars and workshops to advertise new programs -Manage the
content of both intranet and extranet Web sites.  This involves
participating in the design of the Web site layout; researching,
writing, editing, and inputting Web content; and managing content
curation.  

-Work collaboratively with software developers to communicate Web site
development requirements and expand and improve existing features and
functionality.  

-Deliver strategic communication plans.

 

Position Requirements

 

*M.S. or Ph.D. in the life sciences or scientific technical writing
required *Previous work in a basic research laboratory setting required.

*Experience in communicating scientific IT concepts and practices to the
scientific community through presentations, seminars, newsletters, and
published articles required.  

*Outstanding interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
essential.

*Excellent presentation and problem-solving skills required.  

*Knowledge of page layout software required.  

*Attention to detail, time management skills and ability to work
independently with a high level of personal and professional drive and
initiative.

*Use of innovative and creative approaches to developing communication
materials and documents.

 

-Knowledge of infectious diseases research preferred.

-Web design graphical and editorial skills a plus.
