//Ed -- DARTMOUTH COLLEGE LIBRARY HANOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE Unix Systems Programmer Dartmouth College Library seeks an experienced programmer to join the Digital Library Technologies Group, which develops and maintains the technical infrastructure of the Digital Library at Dartmouth, the Digital Publishing Program and other digital initiatives. Typical projects include: designing and integrating components and web-based delivery tools for the Digital Library; enhancing and maintaining our digital publishing system; working with library staff to design, develop and maintain tools to streamline their work; installing, configuring and maintaining commercial and open source software packages and modules. Required: A Bachelor's degree in computer or information science or engineering and a minimum of five years programming experience. Extensive experience with Unix and structured programming languages C++ or Java, and PHP is required. Candidates must demonstrate superior programming, organization and written communication skills; ability to plan, document and complete projects independently; ability to work comfortably and effectively with a project team; ability to coordinate activities with related units; ability to refine project requirements; and ability to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and end users. Highly Desireable: Knowledge of SQL, XML/XSLT/XSLFO, Perl, and library systems, as well as familiarity with library metadata standards such as METS, MODS, and OAI. Prior experience installing, configuring and maintaining packages such as Apache, Perl, Cocoon and Tomcat on Unix systems is also desireable.
