hi community,
I'm very new to library systems, maybe I'm posting to the wrong list.
BTW, I'm developing an application based on RFID technology.
Basically, I need to integrate my client application to Aleph500 for checkout and checkin notifications.
May I have some suggestions from this list on how to do that?
I know that one possibility is to interface to Aleph SIP2 server extension (used also from 3M RFID systems to notify circulations), but I'd prefer to use a real and open standard, such as NCIP protocol (if possible, is it?).
my little 5 c$ on the topic:
Aleph500 is based on Oracle, so you can install the avaibles Oracle tools and you can interact with the database.
The circulation have a specific port and a specific protocol. <I think SIP2 >
There is a specific port for the proprietary protocol of Aleph client
Then there is the z39.50 protocol (is an option, not everyone has it).
As last there is the httpd protocol.
In fact Aleph500 is quit open inside; if you work on an Aleph500 site you can write a cgi to support your protocol.
