This position as Library Director at VIMS is a superb opportunity.
Salary is a little weak, but the resources and perks are matchless. VIMS
has the BRS/Search engine in a UNIX environment, owns the entire set of
BIOSIS Previews records, the entire set of ZooRecord records, has a
Fujitsu M4099D very high speed scanner, has 95,000+ pages of technical
reports scanned and web-published, and has excellent display facilities.

VIMS is a graduate school of a college with a royal charter. The Library
and office extend 130 windowed feet along the York River, opposite the
site of the Battle of Yorktown. In the back of the property is the Civil
War fort and remnants of the Revolutionary War fort, built 150 years after
John Smith walked the grounds. 20 miles away is the excavation of the
probable site of Powahatan's village. Williamsburg is 18 miles away,
Jamestown, 25 miles. Intact shell fossils abound. Geologically the
Institute sits in the crater caused by the asteroid that hit the
Chesapeake Bay.

VIMS' mission is the protection of the coastal and estuarine environment.
The research is first rate, carried out by a community with a Mayberry
feel.
